Siena at The Meritage Resort and Spa Wins Wine Spectator’s Award of Excellence

Siena’s Wine List and Tuscan-Inspired Menu Receive Top Honors

NAPA, Calif. (August 10, 2011) – The Tuscan-inspired, signature restaurant of The Meritage Resort and Spa, Siena, has been selected to receive Wine Spectator’s Award of Excellence for the third straight year. The award is given to restaurants that demonstrate that they not only have an extensive wine list, but properly store each bottle and have a good inventory system. Siena’s, wine list which selects from top wineries and its thematic match to its menu also helped secure the award.

Siena, which recently welcomed a new chef, Mike Collins, has a wine list of 280 wines with an inventory of more than 2,200 bottles. Many of its wines come from California and Italy, however Siena also offers top wines from around the world. The extensive wine list has something for every palate with glasses starting at $8 to a bottle of Champagne (Louis Roederer, “Cristal,” Reims, France 1999) for $500 and numerous selections in between.

“We are thrilled that Siena was again chosen for Wine Spectator’s Award of Excellence,” said Sheri Thomas, director of sales and marketing for The Meritage Resort and Spa. “Chef Mike and our food and beverage manager, Laurel Sather, have done a great job in creating a new menu that our guests love and that pairs well with our wines.”

Wine Spectator’s Restaurant Wine List Awards recognize restaurants whose wine lists offer interesting selections, are appropriate to their cuisine and appeal to a wide range of wine drinkers. To qualify for an award, the list must present complete, accurate wine information. It must include vintages and appellations for all selections, including wines available by the glass. Complete producer names and correct spellings are mandatory, while the overall presentation and appearance of the list is also taken into consideration. After meeting these basic requirements, lists are judged. The ‘Award of Excellence’ is presented for lists that offer a well-chosen selection of quality producers, along with a thematic match to the menu in both price and style. Typically, these lists offer at least 100 selections.
