"From Grape to Glass" – What's Happening Now in the Vineyard
Let the Flowering Begin!
In the first of our series entitled “What’s Happening Now In The Vineyard,” we featured the process of growth when the tiny winter buds begin to “break” through on the vines. So now let’s take this little emerging bud into the flowering stage.
Just around 40-80 days after that aforementioned little bud breaks out into the world, it forms small, button-like clusters. A few weeks later, the clusters transform into little flowers and then the grapevine is both pollinated and fertilized internally, along with a little help from the wind and insects. The result of all this natural team work is a grape berry filled with 1-4 seeds. So here’s to the spring flowers on the vine that ultimately contribute to the savory bouquets of Cabernet Sauvignon, Petite Sirah and other equally lovely blends. Salud!
